AJ's Big Mac Classic

September 17-19 will see the AJ's Big Mack Classic Fishing Tournament in Destin, Florida. The tournament will feature all King Mackerel. All fish must be weighed in for the tournament to be eligible for the cash awards.

This tournament, sponsored by local merchants, raises funds for Project Christmas cheer and Take a Kid Fishing. Participating participants can win one of five cash prizes, or 50 prizes.

Swansboro Rotary Club King Mackerel Blue Water Tournament became one of its most significant fundraising events. In its early years, the tournament had less than 100 participants and a purse of $10,000. Lee Moore was appointed master of ceremonies and the prize purse surpassed $100,000 by 1988. They set off from Charleston Harbor on Friday to catch a giant king mackerel. In less than an hour they caught a few fish that weighed over 100 pounds.

Fishing For Miracles, which was established in 1994, raised more than $1,000,000 for children's charities. Muckenfuss and Dennis Lee, a businessman and offshore fisherman, were co-founders of the event. The tournament attracted 288 boats in its peak year.
